Many of us grew up with Opryland USA, the amusement park which closed nearly 20 years ago. Gaylord Opryland Resort today announced a $90 million investment that they called a “luxury indoor/outdoor water experience.” Hotel stay required. It’s scheduled to open in the Fall of 2018.
Officials with Ryman Hospitality said the 217,000 square-foot development called “SoundWaves” will be located next to the Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center in Nashville. The development will include more than 111,000 square feet of indoor water attractions and activities over three levels, as well as another 106,000 square feet of outdoor water attractions. Plans also call for indoor and outdoor adults-only areas.
Year-round attractions will include indoor water slides from 32 feet to 46 feet tall, a double flow rider, rapid and lazy rivers and an activity pool with rock climbing wall. Other attractions – including a 315,000-gallon wave pool with giant LED movie screen, 45.5-foot slide towers, and adults-only pool and a kids pool with multi-level play structure – will be open seasonally. Access to the facility will come through the Gaylord Opryland Resort.
SoundWaves is set to open in fall 2018. It’s expected to generate some 699 full-time jobs with an an annual economic impact of $57 million.
