Cumberland County law enforcement observed a driver Wednesday on Highway 70 North at Mayland Road not wearing a seat belt. The officer flagged down the driver, 24-year-old Patrick Cole Floyd, to pull over. The report states a clear plastic bag containing pills was in the center console. Floyd was requested to exit the automobile, but he placed it in drive and fled the scene. The deputy engaged in a high-speed pursuit with the suspect outbound on Highway 70 North to Dripping Springs Road. Floyd turned onto a dirt road where he got away from authorities. A few hours later, Floyd was captured and charged with two counts each of reckless endangerment and evading arrest.
This was not Floyd’s first pursuit with Cumberland County deputies.
While patrolling on Dripping Springs Road in September 2019, an officers spotted a vehicle driven by Floyd. A chase started reaching speeds of over 60 miles per hour in a 35 zone. It ended on the 1100 block when Floyd pulled into a driveway. He was arrested in that incident.
