Oliver Springs Police Chief Kenneth Morgan has received a letter of termination from Mayor Omer Cox. A reason has not been officially released. Lt. David Laxton has been named interim chief. A meeting will be scheduled soon with the town council to discuss how to proceed with obtaining a permanent head of the police force.

More information will be released at a later time.

According to city charter, the mayor has the right to terminate department heads and the city manager at his discretion. Anyone dismissed in this manner has the right to request a hearing before the council and they can override the mayor’s action by two-thirds vote.
