STORY UPDATE – Holbert has passed away.

(PREVIOUS STORY) – A Nashville Metro police officer and a woman were critically wounded in a shootout in the parking lot of a Dollar General on Brick Church Pike this morning. Initial reports indicate the incident took place during a traffic stop outside the establishment.

The policeman injured has been identified as Officer Josh Baker and the female as 31-year-old Nika Holbert.

Authorities say Baker stopped a Chevy Camaro after learning the owner of the vehicle had outstanding drug warrants. Baker approached the car and learned the owner of the car was not the one driving but he instead encountered Holbert. She allegedly fired at Baker striking him. He returned fired hitting Holbert, who drove off and crashed. Baker was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he was undergoing surgery and was listed in critical condition. Holbert was taken to TriStar Skyline Medical Center.

The TBI is investigating the incident.
