PICKETT COUNTY DEFEATS MOORE COUNTY TO ADVANCE TO ELITE 8

The Pickett County Bobcats defeated Moore County last night 61 to 40 to advance into the TSSAA Class A boys Elite 8 for the state championship.

The Bobcats join Richland, North Greene, Madison Magnet, Clay County, West Carroll, MAHS, and Cosby to make up this year’s Elite 8.

Pickett County (21-8) will now face Cosby Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at 4 p.m. central in the Murphy Center at MTSU in Murfreesboro. The winner will advance into the Final Four Friday, March 19, 2021 at 11:30 a.m. central to play the winner of the West Carroll/MAHS game.

The Class A state championship basketball game will be held at 11 a.m. central, Saturday, March 20, 2021.

The Bobcats appeared 10 times in past state boys basketball tournaments. They won two state titles and were runner-up once in 1993.

They have consecutive state tournament appearances: 1990-93 (4); 1994-96 (2); 2001-02 (3).

The Bobcats won their first championship in their first appearance in 1990 after defeating Moore County, Bradford, and Clarkrange, finishing the season (28-8).

They finished as runners-up in 1993 after defeating Oneida and Spring Hill before falling to BGA, 74-71.

Pickett County won their second championship in 1995 after defeating Perry County, Powell Valley, and Adamsville, finishing the season (35-3).

Their last appearance was in 2005 where they lost to Wayne County in the state quarterfinals, 54-47.
