Court officials say 31-year-old Kayla Lynn Crowe of Monterey pled guilty yesterday to aggravated assault. She is to serve five years and pay up to $8,000 in medical bills.

The plea comes after an investigation into alleged child abuse by parents of a five-month-old infant and subsequent arrest of Crowe back on May 29, 2020 by the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office on three counts of aggravated child abuse.

Since the investigation began on February 27, 2020 investigators learned that on January 21, 2020, the child was taken to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital for injuries by a concerned family member.

On February 27, 2020, the child was taken to Cookeville Regional Medical Center for additional medical treatment. The child had numerous severe injuries that were reported to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office. The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division was notified and immediately began investigating Crowe and other related to this case.

Other defendants in this matter are expected to appear in court next month.
