VEHICLE CRASH ON HIGHWAY 62 RESULTS IN WIDESPREAD POWER OUTAGES

The Tennessee Highway Patrol and medics responded to a vehicle accident late yesterday on Highway 62 in Anderson County. A 2015 Chevy Silverado driven by 28-year-old Dustin Elliot of Mobile, Alabama was traveling north into Oak Ridge when he went off the road and hit the utility tower causing critical damage. The tower was leaning over the roadway after the impact resulting in widespread outages to the town and surrounding area. Elliot and two passengers in the truck, 22-year-old David Sommers and 36-year-old Dan Weaver, both of Mobile, Alabama, were all not restrained and injured. Elliot was charged with driving on a suspended license, failure to exercise due care and violation of the seatbelt law.
