Caitlyn Kaufman, 26, a Nashville nurse has been killed by shots fired into her gray Mazda SUV as she traveled to work along I-440 west between the Hillsboro Rd & West End exits.

According to reports, the shooting probably took place between 6:00 and 6:30 p.m., while Kaufman was on her way to work for a 7 p.m. shift at Saint Thomas West ICU.  After being struck by gunfire this mortally wounded RN was able to pull her vehicle over to the shoulder of the road where it is believe she bled to death.

Numerous motorist have reported seeing the vehicle with it’s flashers on up against the guardrail of the interstate over the roughly 2 1/2 hour period after the shooting, but no one stopped until 8:52 p.m., when a metro parks officer stopped to help, assuming the car had crashed.  He reportedly saw bullet holes in the windows of the car and Kaufman dead inside.

Anyone traveling on I-440 Thursday evening who may have seen something out of the ordinary is asked to contact Metro Nashville Police at 615-742-7463.
