The body of 26-year-old Robert “D.J.” Young from Rossville, Georgia was recovered from Chickamauga Creek just before 1 p.m. today. Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency officers along with STARS Rescue Service, East Ridge Fire Department, Chattanooga Fire and Chattanooga Police searched last night and today after Young was reported missing.

Young’s fiancé dropped him off around 9 a.m. yesterday at the popular kayak launch at Camp Jordan. Kayakers found and reported an overturned kayak around 11 a.m. about 300 yards downstream from the launch. Young’s fiancé reported him missing in the afternoon when calls to Young went directly to voicemail. Family members identified Young’s belongings later in the day.

The search for Young was called off around 1 a.m. this morning and resumed later in the day. Lower water levels on the creek helped with search efforts. Current water levels fluctuate between knee deep and nine feet deep along the search area. Young’s body was transported to the Hamilton County Medical Examiner’s Office.
