Cumberland County sheriff’s deputies responded to a 911 call at approximately 6:22 p.m. last night (September 27, 2020) to 25 Christian Road for a shooting. Authorities arrived and discovered the victim, 63-year-old Billy Ray Jones, deceased inside the home from an apparent gunshot wound.

An investigation revealed the suspect, 38-year-old Thomas Mack Arnold, Sr. left Tennessee heading to Florida in a green 1997 Mercury Grand Marquis.

At approximately 3:10 a.m. this morning, Crisp County, Georgia sheriff’s deputies captured Arnold following a traffic stop on I-75.

Arnold is charged with first-degree murder and will soon be extradited back to Cumberland County.

“I wanted to thank all the multiple agencies who worked together so well to solve this murder investigation. This is a result of team work and multiple law enforcement agencies working great together,” said Sheriff Casey Cox.

This is the second murder investigation that agencies responded to, worked and solved in Cumberland County this weekend.
