An investigation continues into the murder of Austin Shane Lewis in Cumberland County. His body was discovered at a home on the 400 block of Neverfail Road on September 3, 2020 after a welfare check was requested. Lewis died from a gunshot wound. Sheriff Casey Cox said today they are waiting on forensics results to come back and continue to follow up on leads. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is assisting the sheriff’s office. The original sheriff’s department report of the murder is as follows:
“A deputy was dispatched to 436 Neverfail Road in reference to a welfare check on Austin Lewis. While on the way to the scene, dispatch notified the deputy Lewis had two outstanding warrants. Upon arrival, two deputies walked down the driveway towards the home and noticed the front door open. The door appeared to have been forced open. The deputy entered the residence and found Lewis on the floor of the kitchen with a gunshot wound to the upper left portion of the chest. No other people or weapons were found in the home. A spent shotgun shell was located on the couch just before entering the kitchen. The scene was secured and an investigator was called to the residence.”
