SMITH COUNTY, TENNESSEE SCHOOL DISTRICT TO STOP PROMOTING CHRISTIANITY

///
Comments are Off

According to federal court documents, a Tennessee school district sued last year by a couple of atheist families for promoting Christianity has agreed to stop doing so. The Smith County School System admitted prayers were delivered over the school address system, Bibles were given to fifth graders, and Bible verses and other religion messages were posted in school hallways for students to see. The families that filed the lawsuit stated promoting religion and coercing religious exercise is a violation of the First Amendment’s establishment clause. The suit was brought on behalf of the families by the American Civil Liberties Union.
