The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has issued a Blue Alert after a suspect allegedly shot a Whitfield County deputy during a traffic stop on I-75 late last night.

Dalton Lee Potter, age 29, of Leaky, Texas, is considered an armed and dangerous fugitive.

According to the GBI, Potter fired numerous shots at Whitfield County Sheriff’s Deputy Darrell Hackney from inside his vehicle. The deputy stopped him for reportedly pulling a stolen utility trailer.

Hackney was shot in the vest, preventing serious injury.

Potter was last known to be on foot on I-75 at the Whitfield/Gordon County line (in between Dalton and Calhoun, Georgia).
