MULTI-VEHICLE ACCIDENT ON I-40 IN PUTNAM COUNTY RESULTS IN INJURIES

A four vehicle accident last Friday (August 21, 2020) on I-40 in Putnam County left two hurt. In the report released this morning, the Tennessee Highway Patrol says a 2000 Kenworth tractor-trailer operated by 55-year-old James Braun of Avon, Indiana changed lanes at the 295 mile marker and struck the rear of a 2015 Nissan Murano driven by 43-year-old Robert Thorbjornsen of Knoxville. The impact then involved a Freightliner tractor-trailer operated by 53-year-old Douglas Fithian of Murfreesboro and a 2018 Toyota Camry driven by 23-year-old Faith Whipple of Geneva, Iowa. Injured in the accident was Thorbjornsen along with a passenger in his vehicle, 38-year-old Rachel Thorbjornsen. Braun was charged with failure to exercise due care, violation of the registration law, violation of financial responsibility law (no insurance), and having a false record of duty status (false log book).
