The Crossville Police Department issued more details this morning of a standoff over the weekend. Authorities, along with a SWAT team, all converged on an apartment at 464 Webb Avenue Saturday afternoon after a report of shots fired.
Officers arrived and made contact outside the residence with 49-year-old Brian Berry of Crossville, and a female suspect, who were believed to have been involved in the disturbance. Neither had a firearm in their possession. Authorities learned 57-year-old Mark Klimczck of Crossville was still inside the apartment where the gunshot had been reported and was not responding.
After repeated attempts to make contact with Klimczck, SWAT members deployed a chemical agent prior to making entry, where Klimczck was found uninjured behind a closed door in the bathroom. A search warrant was obtained and authorities reportedly found a loaded 9mm pistol on a bed and a spent 9mm shell casing was found in the living room. Methamphetamine was found inside the bathroom with Klimczck and also allegedly in the possession of Berry, outside in the parking lot.
Following the investigation, it was discovered Klimczck and Berry were involved in a verbal altercation inside the apartment, which became violent when Klimczck reportedly brandished a firearm and fired a round in the floor and threatened Berry. No injuries were reported.
Klimczck was arrested for being a felon in possession of a weapon, aggravated assault, reckless endangerment and simple possession of methamphetamine.
Berry was charged with simple possession of meth.
