TOTAL OF SIX VEHICLES INVOLVED IN CHAIN REACTION CRASH ON I-40 IN EASTERN CUMBERLAND COUNTY

A six vehicle accident on I-40 in eastern Cumberland County this afternoon sent six to the hospital for treatment of injuries. Troopers say the accident took place at the 330 westbound mile marker and all six automobiles were heading in the same direction when the chain reaction crash happened in heavy rainfall. The drivers and passengers involved in today’s accident are as follows: (Injuries are noted in bold)

Driver #1

2008 Nissan Titan (pulling a trailer) driven by 34-year-old Francisco Ontiveros of Tennessee

Charged With: Driving with no license or insurance.

passenger – 57-year-old Rayena Ontiveros of Tennessee (Injured)

Driver #2   

2017 Subaru Legacy operated by 82-year-old John Long from North Carolina (Injured)

Passengers – 80-year-old Anna Long of Tennessee (Injured) and 80-year-old Wanda Cordell of Tennessee (Injured)

Driver #3  

2007 International tractor-trailer driven by 28-year-old John Rodriguez of Pennsylvania

Driver #4

2012 Ford F-250 operated by 47-year-old Heath Casteel of Tennessee

Driver #5

2013 Kia Sorento driven by 37-year-old Alicia Armstrong from Tennessee  (Injured)

Passengers – 38-year-old Nathan Armstrong of Tennessee and three minors, ages 15, 6 and 1.

Driver #6

2011 GMC Sierra (pulling trailer) operated by 55-year-old Michael Byars of Tennessee     (Injured)

Traffic at the scene on I-40 westbound was backed up for miles for a couple of hours. That lead to heavy traffic congestion on Highway 70 between Westel and Crab Orchard.
