The combination of heavy rainfall and speed resulted in a single vehicle accident on I-40 in Cumberland County yesterday. Trooper Chris Bennett says a 2012 Dodge Avenger driven by 20-year-old Vieyra Anel Cuevas Mendoza of Sherman, Texas was traveling east at the 315 mile marker when the vehicle hydroplaned, left the road and hit a tree. Mendoza and a 16-year-old passenger sustained minor injuries. The crash was one of 7 yesterday afternoon on I-40 in a 30 mile stretch during the storms.
