School officials say a student and staff member at Rhea County Middle School tested positive for coronavirus, and at least one student at Rhea County High School also has contracted it. The school system did not have a specific number of cases at the elementary school. In an earlier letter sent to parents, the school district said that they will contact parents for immediate pickup when students complain of or are seen to have symptoms of the virus. Children will be allowed to return after being medically cleared.
Another county is reporting active cases. Officials say 27 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Putnam County schools as of yesterday (Wednesday, August 12, 2020) and over 265 students, teachers, staff and at least one bus driver have been quarantined.
