A Fentress County Grand Jury ruled a shooting this past June involving a deputy was justified. The TBI was called in to investigate the incident on the 100 block of Lewis Road in Clarkrange. Officers arrived to find 37-year-old Gregory Lee Turnure armed with a hatchet, knife and a pipe. The suspect threated to harm himself and others at the scene. During the confrontation, Turnure reportedly tried to hit deputies with a weapon, resulting in one of them shooting him. Turnure died in the altercation. The grand jury report states the officer’s action were necessary and in self-defense.
