MINOR LEAGUE BASEBALL TO ANNOUNCE CANCELLATION OF 2020 SEASON

Minor League Baseball (MiLB) is expected to officially announce today the cancellation of the 2020 season amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic including for the Chattanooga Lookouts and Knoxville Smokies.

The reported cancellation does not come as a surprise as many of the resources available in the Major League to protect players are not as available in the Minor League.

In late May, the MiLB cut hundreds of players, with the expectation of cutting hundreds more ahead of the season cancellation.

Last week, 15 Minor League teams sued their insurance providers after being denied claims for business-interruption insurance due to the pandemic.

Meanwhile, Major League Baseball recently announced a 60-game schedule that will start July 23 or 24, 2020 in empty ballparks with new rules.
