Severe thunderstorms and a couple of tornadoes in Southeast Tennessee and Northwest Georgia caused damage and widespread power outages last night.
In Bradley County, widespread damage took place and one person is missing. Severel search and rescues took place in the county to help free people from under the rubble in homes and mobile homes. Several were taken to the hospital with injuries. Several roads are closed due to debris and flooding.
In Chattanooga, rescue efforts continued this morning. Crews there received mutual aid from Rhea, McMinn and Meigs counties along with fire departments from Crossville, Putnam County and White County. Several homes were destroyed in the east part of Chattanooga.
Across the state line in Murray County, Georgia, a likely tornado resulted in destruction, many injured and five dead.
The severe weather outbreak cause numerous fatalities in the southeast yesterday and into early this morning.
During the peak of the storms last night in the coverage area, around 4,000 customers lost power in Fentress County as well as 400 customers mainly in eastern White County.
