CUMBERLAND COUNTY TEACHERS AND PRINCIPAL OF THE YEAR ANNOUNCED

From the Cumberland County School System:

The Cumberland County PreK-4 Teacher of the Year is Ms. Natasha Draper. Ms. Draper is a 10-year veteran teacher from North Cumberland Elementary. Ms. Draper has taught first grade for all of her teaching tenure. She is a mentor, grade level chair, PLC Leader and has presented at the Summer Literacy Conference as well as being responsible for redelivery of state standards for her colleagues in conjunction with the Upper Cumberland Core Office.

The Cumberland County 5-8 Teacher of the Year is Ms. Toni Larue-Garrett. Ms. Larue-Garrett is a 21-year veteran teacher from North Cumberland Elementary School. Toni currently teaches seventh grade English and Language Arts and previously taught kindergarten, first, second and third grades. Toni serves on the School Leadership Team, is grade level chair, ELA PLC Leader, is a mentor and Cross-Country Coach. She has participated in the Aspiring Administrator Academy and as external review team member for AdvancEd, and served on the State Textbook Review Committee.

The Cumberland County 9-12 Teacher of the Year is Mr. Cub Whitson. Mr. Whitson is a 12-year veteran teacher from Cumberland County High School. Mr. Whitson currently teaches U.S. History and has previously taught World History, World Geography and 7th and 8th grade social studies. Cub is head soccer coach for both boys and girls at CCHS, has served as assistant girls basketball coach at CCHS and assistant coach for boys basketball at Stone Elementary.

Ms. Stephanie Barnes has been named Cumberland County’s Principal of the Year. Ms. Barnes is a 24-year educator with all service in Cumberland County. She is principal at Phoenix High School. Stephanie taught middle school mathematics for 18 years at North Cumberland and Stone Elementary. She coached basketball and football for 14 years. She also served four years as Assistant Principal at Stone Elementary prior to moving to Phoenix. She is currently in her third year as Principal at The Phoenix Campus.

Dr. Rebecca Farley has been named Cumberland County’s Supervisor of the Year. Dr. Farley is a 20-year veteran educator in the Cumberland County School District. Dr. Farley taught seventh grade mathematics at North Cumberland for 6 years and was assistant principal there for one year prior to becoming principal at Crab Orchard Elementary, a position she retained for 10 years. Dr. Farley is serving in her fourth year as Pre-K-8 Supervisor of Instruction.
