The Roane County Sheriff’s Department minutes ago released more information on a Christmas day shooting. Deputies responded to Ponders Gap Road in Kingston and found Arthur Abston had been shot twice. Abston was transported to a hospital in Sweetwater then transferred to U.T. Medical Center. He was last listed in stable condition. The alleged shooter was identified as Charles Roberts and was found to be at a residence located on Williams Road in the Paint Rock community. Initially, Roberts refused to exit the residence. After speaking with Roberts for a period of time, he finally exited the residence and surrendered to authorities. Roberts was transported to Roane Medical Center for treatment of injuries he sustained during the initial altercation with Abston. Roberts was later released from the hospital and booked into the Roane County jail on an outstanding warrant. The shooting remains under investigation by the Roane County Sheriff’s Department and charges could be pending. The Loudon County Sheriff’s Office also assisted with the investigation.
