In a follow-up story to the motorcycle accident on Main Street in Crossville Wednesday, 44-year-old Michael Paul Howard was transported to Erlanger Medical Center for treatment of severe injuries sustained. He was traveling north on Main Street at Matherly Drive when he was hit by a vehicle and ejected. However, it was the actions of a citizen that potentially saved Howards life. Sixty-two year old Frank Vitale, an employee of East Tennessee Ford, went to where Howard landed and saw him bleeding heavily. Vitale took Howards belt off and used it as a tourniquet on Howards leg, holding the belt tightly. Vitale kept talking to Howard to try to keep him conscious until EMS arrived on the scene. It is proof that sometimes heroes do not wear capes.
