The Cumberland County Commission tonight approved a public notice pursuant with state code regarding filling the 6th district seat declared vacant. The commission urges all interested citizens residing in the 6th district to submit their names in a cover letter for the vacancy to County Mayor Allen Foster by August 6, 2019 by 4 p.m. central. Those unable to notify the mayor’s office may also come to the August 19, 2019 county commission meeting. The seat will be filled later in that meeting after candidates have a chance to address the commission of their desire to serve. The person selected will be appointed by the commission to serve until the next county election in August 2020. The 6th district in Cumberland County includes Crab Orchard, Hebbertsburg, Ozone, Pine View and Grassy Cove.
