Thursday night, Roane County deputies responded to a call about a fight at Jayro Apartments on Highway 70 in Harriman. They found 38-year-old Markeith Anthony Wright in the parking lot, smelling of alcohol, with visible injuries to his face and body. Wright said he’d fought with and choked a 16-year-old boy.

The teen told deputies Wright was at his mother’s apartment and was giving his aunt a hard time, so he intervened. He said Wright shoved him into the door, so he fought back.

Wright admitted he’d been drinking.

After being placed under arrest, Wright asked to be taken to his apartment to secure the door.

As a deputy was retrieving the things he asked for, he saw something on the ground containing a white powdery substance. Another deputy found a small baggie containing marijuana in plain view.

Wright was charged with aggravated assault, public intoxication and simple possession.
