Meigs County authorities called in the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation after a school bus driver on her morning route spotted a body on the side of Eaves Ferry Road in Decatur early this morning.
The driver had about 20 students on the bus at the time – ranging from elementary through high-school age. According to Meigs County Director of Schools Clint Baker, some students also saw the body of the as-yet-unidentified white male.
Authorities say after the driver noticed the bound body about 7:30, she drove a little way past the scene, stopped the bus to call 911 and continued on her route.
Baker said all parents were notified, and given the option to pick up their children if they wished. The school system brought in counselors to talk with the students. Baker said the driver did a “great job handling something you don’t ever expect to encounter with kids on your bus.”
