Wednesday, Chattanooga police arrested a man attempting to smuggle nearly three pounds of marijuana, hundreds of THC oil vials, and drug paraphernalia through the Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport.
Chattanooga Police Department narcotics investigators coordinated with Chattanooga Airport Police to set up surveillance on 30-year-old Shawn E. Williams, who was suspected of transporting a “significant amount” of THC oil into Chattanooga.
When a police K-9 hit on the suspect’s checked baggage, Williams was detained after retrieving his bags from the conveyor belt.
Williams gave consent for officers to search his bags. Inside a suitcase, they found 399 THC oil vials (weighing 11.9 pounds), with approximately 90 percent THC in each, and 2.7 pounds of marijuana in vacuum-sealed bags.
A search of the suspect’s car turned up a vacuum sealer and additional vacuum bags.
Williams was booked into the Hamilton County jail, charged with possession of marijuana for resale and THC vapes for resale. He’s scheduled to appear in Hamilton County Sessions Court April 3.
