Every year, Darci Bernabei, principal of Christian Academy of the Cumberlands, celebrates Read Across America and invites the President and Vice President of the United States.
Bernabei doesn’t expect them to actually show up, but she extends the offer year after year anyway. She often gets autographed photos and nice letters in reply; but this morning, when the phone rang at the school, the secretary relayed a message: “Mrs. Darci, the Vice President’s office is on the phone for you.”
Vice President Mike Pence thanked her and the school for the invitation – but especially thanked Bernabei for the prayers for our government leaders.
A message posted on Facebook indicated Pence “said he wanted to tell us personally just how much it meant to him.”
Bernabei said Pence’s words included, “I’m a Christian, a conservative and a Republican… in that order.”
