The Loudon County Sheriff’s Office has identified the victim in Monday’s shooting in Lenoir City. They say 23-year-old Dakota Willard was shot in the upper right chest and the left side of the back of his head, behind his ear. Officials believe the suspect, David T. Miles, lived at 165 Lee Hi Street “on and off,” along with Willard and another individual. Willard was said to have been living there “in and out” since mid-January.
Miles, who was arrested by Knox County deputies Monday afternoon, was said to have previously made statements about causing Willard harm.
Police say Miles’ brother was in the shower yesterday morning when Miles stole his shotgun and car and drove to the Lee Hi Street home.
Court documents reveal a witness said Miles entered the home and ordered him to go into the back bedroom and close his eyes because he needed to talk to Willard. The witness said he heard two gunshots and when he opened his eyes, Willard was dead on the couch. The witness waited until Miles drove away and then went to call 911 from a nearby home; he told investigators Miles was in the gray Ford Fusion.
Miles, who was apprehended about 2:45 Eastern Time, was charged with first-degree murder, theft of property over $10,000, misdemeanor theft of property and especially aggravated burglary. His bond was set at $2,113,000. His next court appearance is set for March 6.
