The University of Tennessee Volunteers defeated the Florida Gators 73-61 Saturday afternoon, to the delight of a sellout crowd of 22,261 at Thompson-Boling Arena. This extends their current winning streak to 18 games, and gives them a record of 22-1 on the season.
But that’s not the only milestone the Vols have reached.
The win gives the team a 22-game home winning streak, and extends coach Rick Barnes’ longest winning streak in his 32-year head-coaching career.
It’s also the longest active Division I win streak.
The Vols’ record in the SEC also improves to 10-0, their best start in over 40 years – and extends their regular-season SEC wins to a program-record 14 games.
The Vols can likely expect to be ranked #1 in the AP College Basketball Poll for a fourth straight week when the rankings are announced Monday.
They next take on South Carolina at Thompson-Boling on Wednesday night. Tipoff is at 6:30. Then they head to Lexington for a faceoff against Kentucky on Saturday.
