LAFOLLETTE MAN CHARGED AFTER CHASE ON I-75 IN CAMPBELL COUNTY

A high-speed midday chase this morning ended with a crash at a busy Clinton intersection.

Tennessee Highway Patrol reports the chase began on Stinking Creek Road in Campbell County; THP joined LaFollette police in the chase as it entered I-75 at mile marker 144.

The driver, 46-year-old Matthew McCarty of LaFollette, was wanted on a vehicular assault charge in Campbell County. He continued south along I-75, at speeds of up to 95 miles an hour; he hit spike strips deployed by THP at mile marker 125. He eventually exited at mile marker 122.

McCarty crashed into another vehicle on nearby Charles Seivers Boulevard, at Hillvale Road. No one in the other vehicle was injured. Nor was McCarty, who was arrested for felony evading, reckless driving, DUI and various other traffic charges.

A 22-year-old female passenger in his vehicle was treated for minor injuries at U.T. Medical Center and released.
