Tuesday night, the Crossville City Council voted to hold off on appropriating a$500,000 request from the Roane State Foundation for two new classrooms. The school asked the city to help fund a 4400 square foot science lab and classroom. They had also planned to go to the Cumberland County Commission with the same request. Councilman JHGraham made a motion to approve the request, but City Mayor James Mayberry stated he believed that it was too much to ask from the city in lieu of the council’s support of local education. He said that the city supported an initial $750,000 toward the building of the original county campus plus another $100,000 was granted toward the creationof the school’s business incubator. Other council members said thatthey were in support of the donation, but they wanted to see whatwould happen with state funding. They also said that they would liketo see such funding go through the budget process. The motion failed4-1.
