Well before dawn Sunday morning, Roane County deputies came upon a white Kia stopped in the middle of the road in the vicinity of Roane State Highway and Ruritan Road. Inside the car, they found 28-year-old Diego Jashawn Martin, asleep in the driver’s seat, with his foot on the brake pedal.
After several attempts, deputies were able to awaken Martin, who insisted he had not been asleep. He claimed he had just gotten off work and had pulled off the road to wait for a ride. According to deputies, Martin changed his story several times as to why he was in the roadway.
A check of his license determined it to have been suspended for failure to provide proof of insurance.
Martin was arrested for driving on a suspended license and transported to the Roane County jail.
