FDA WARNS ABOUT DANGERS OF ‘DRAGON’S BREATH’ ICE CREAM

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is warning about potential dangers of eating or handling foods prepared by adding liquid nitrogen.

The warning follows a new trend in ice cream treats marketed under names like “Dragon’s Breath” and “nitro puff.”

The FDA says there have been severe, and sometimes life-threatening, injuries caused by liquid nitrogen in food or drinks.

The agency says liquid nitrogen, “although non-toxic, can cause severe damage to skin and internal organs if mishandled or accidentally ingested due to the extremely low temperatures it can maintain.”
