The U.S. Geological Survey reports two small earthquakes took place in the area yesterday afternoon.

The first, measuring a magnitude 2.1, took place near Loudon in the Tellico Lake area.

The second, a 1.2 earthquake, was reported near Maryville.

Small earthquakes are common in East Tennessee as the area is on a small earthquake fault zone. Most of them are so small that people don’t notice them.
