Nidec Motor Corporation, a Japanese manufacturer of high-efficiency motors, has announced its intention to expand its business operations in Henderson County.
The Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development reports Nidec plans to make updates to its existing facility in Lexington, and add new products to its line of motors for the residential, commercial and industrial markets. Nidec’s total investment in this expansion is estimated to be $18 million.
The announcement comes in the wake of Nidec’s 2017 acquisition of Leroy-Somer, a French motor manufacturer with nearly 10,000 employees in eight countries. The expansion is expected to bring 300 new jobs to the state. Nidec currently employs more than 200 people in Tennessee.
A TDECD official calls the company’s expansion “one of Lexington’s largest economic development announcements since 2011.”
