The family of a man killed in the Waffle House shooting has filed a wrongful-death lawsuit against the father of the suspected gunman. Jeffrey Reinking, the father of Travis Reinking, is named as the defendant in the lawsuit. Officials say 20-year-old Joe Perez was shot and killed while he was standing outside of the restaurant in Antioch, Tennessee. The lawsuit claims Jeffery Reinking’s negligent conduct caused Perez’s death. Jeffrey Reinking is accused of returning his son’s weapons to him after they were confiscated by the government. One of the weapons is the gun authorities say was used during the mass shooting. In August 2017, officials confiscated four weapons from Travis Reinking because of worries about his mental stability. He voluntarily surrendered the weapons to police, who then turned them over to his father, Jeffery Reinking, after he promised to keep them secured and away from his son.
