A Knox County foster mother was arrested yesterday after allegedly leaving a child in a hot car. Knoxville police responded to a report of an infant left in a minivan at Kroger in Cedar Bluff off Kingston Pike. A woman spotted the 9-month-old child in a car seat. Officers say the windows were rolled up and the engine was off in 90-degree weather. The van was unlocked and the child was taken out of the hot vehicle. Officers say the child was crying, had a red face and was sweating. Fifteen minutes later, 38-year-old Claire Huenefeld returned to the minivan after shopping. Huenefeld allegedly told officers she was fostering the child and forgot she had the child with her. The infant was taken to East Tennessee Children’s Hospital for treatment, and will be turned over to the Department of Children’s Services upon release. Huenefeld was arrested for child endangerment.
