Firefighters, rescue squad members and first responders in Cumberland County are mourning the loss of one of their own. Captain Gerry Latham, 64, of the Cumberland County Rescue Squad, passed away over the weekend. Bilbrey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements and service information is expected to be released soon. Rescue squads from all across the state are expected to send one vehicle from their department to participate in the funeral procession for Latham. Crab Orchard’s fire unit is expected to lead the procession with Latham’s fire helmet and jacket on the truck.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 25, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. at Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial to follow in Hayes-Kerley Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 24, 2018, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bilbrey Funeral Home. Survivors include wife, Frances Latham; sons Gerry (Gina) Latham, Jr.; Dusty (Jennifer) Latham; Eddie Mackey & Mike (Renee) Millsleder; daughter, Linda Hensley; 14 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; father, John Latham; and brothers Larry (Nancy) Latham & Terri (Diane) Latham. The family requests memorial donations be made to the Cumberland County Rescue Squad.
