Tennessee lawmakers passed legislation yesterday afternoon that promised to make sure no students, teachers or schools would suffer as a result of a “deliberate attack” on TNReady standardized testing earlier this week. The legislation was passed by both the Tennessee House and Senate following additional complaints yesterday that students were still experiencing trouble while taking the TNReady tests. The passed legislation includes the following:
-All local Tennessee school boards were given the ability to decide how much the TNReady tests would affect their students’ final grades
-School board members may choose that impact from 0 percent up to 15 percent
-Student-performance data taken from the TNReady tests will not be used to give a letter grade to a school or to identify a school as a priority school
-TNReady results and data won’t determine employment termination or compensation for teachers and faculty
