A Putnam County man was sentenced yesterday on charges of rape and aggravated kidnapping. Court officials say 38-year-old Daniel James Bishop will serve a 12 year sentence at 100 percent, the maximum sentence allowable by law. Bishop will also be placed on the violent sex offender registry and he will be subject to lifetime supervision. Officers say during the incident, Bishop held a woman captive, and beat her about the head and body with a hammer and crowbar. He raped the victim and repeatedly strangled her with a belt, causing her to go in and out of consciousness. She sustained lacerations to her head and severe bruising over her entire body. Prosecutors say Bishop also forced the victim to consume animal feces.
