A criminally negligent homicide trial that was scheduled to start in Cumberland County this week was canceled after a plea was entered. Court officials say 32-year-old Samantha Denise Farley of White County was charged in the death of her 7-year-old son, Tyler Frederick McBride. The charge stems from a January 25, 2016 incident in which Farley allegedly left four children in a vehicle unattended while she went into a Verizon Wireless store in Crossville to pay a bill. Officers say Farley allegedly left a loaded firearm in her purse in the vehicle. One of the children got the firearm and McBride was accidentally shot. In court this week, Farley entered a guilty plea to a reduced charge of providing a firearm to a minor and was sentenced to 11 months 29 days supervised probation. The reduction in the charge was agreed on by both sides to spare the other children that witnesses the shooting to relive it through testimony in a trial of the tragic accident.
