Child advocates from across the Upper Cumberland area will head to Nashville Tuesday and Wednesday to focus on children’s issues statewide. Children’s Advocacy Days brings together advocates with legislators and state officials. Among the attendees will be Kristi Paling, the Upper Cumberland Regional Coordinator for the Tennnessee Commission on Children and Youth.
“We have several people that are going from the Upper Cumberland area,” Paling said. “They’ll be visiting with legislatures, talking about current bills and just addressing some needs they have with the legislatures. It’s a wonderful opportunity to do that.”
During the two days, guest speakers will address topics including the effect on children from Tennessee’s opioid crisis, adverse childhood experiences, and childhood stress. Paling said Children’s Advocacy Days teaches advocates about various issues and opportunities concerning children in Tennessee. The group will also hear from the candidates for governor during a Wednesday forum.
