Airport Road in Roane County is getting safety upgrades according to Rockwood Mayor Mike Miller. Several hundred cars travel Airport Road out of Rockwood up the winding portion of the road to access areas on the mountain. A state safety grant is assisting the city and the county with the placement of signage and guard rails along Airport Road. The paving is expected to start in the next few weeks weather permitting. That will result in possible lane restrictions while the work is being done.
