Yesterday, Roane County deputies were called to a Simpson Lane residence in Oliver Springs to a report of shots fired. According to the arrest report, a home health care company said a patients son identified as 42-year-old Billy Lee Edwards, Jr. became irate and made threats to kill members of the health care company. Officers say a firearm went off during the rant. Officers arrived, performed a protective sweep of the home and reportedly found a bag containing marijuana next to a loaded magazine and a firearm. Deputies found a spent 9 mm shell casing on the floor at the doorway to a bedroom. Edwards stated that he dropped the gun and then later stated that he was cleaning the gun when it went off. He was charged with aggravated assault and possession of drugs.
