POLICE SEARCHING FOR SUSPECT IN OFFICER SHOOTING

A suspect considered armed and dangerous is on the loose after shooting an officer in Knoxville last night, according to police. Officers responded to the scene at 5405 Washington Pike outside the Target store. Officers identified the suspect as 31-year-old Ronnie Lucas Wilson. Police said he may be driving a black mid 70s model Chevrolet Nova with a red stripe on the hood. The vehicle had a Tennessee license plate with the numbers 7F38D5. Police asked anyone who sees Wilson to call 911 immediately. Officer Jay Williams, a 14-year veteran of the police force, attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Wilson for a speeding violation. Wilson allegedly fired at Officer Williams from his vehicle while it was still moving and then fired several more shots after the vehicle came to a stop. KPD said Wilson used a shotgun. Williams was transported to UT Medical Center for treatment. Authorities say Williams was okay and in stable condition after receiving a gunshot wound to the shoulder. Police said they were seeking attempted murder charges against Wilson.
