After a nearly 2-year investigation into illicit drugs in Meigs County, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) has announced that 19 people have been charged. Authorities have 11 suspects in custody. The investigation began in January 2016 with undercover sting operations in Meigs County to identify suspects contributing to drug activity, mainly methamphetamine. The TBI, Meigs County Sheriff’s Office, Decatur Police Department, McMinn County Sheriff’s Office, and Drug Task Forces in the 9th and 10th judicial districts joined forces during the investigation. The Meigs County Grand Jury indicted 18 people in the investigation, with a warrant being secured against one other person in relation to a probation violation. Eleven of the nineteen people charged have been arrested as of Friday, when authorities performed an extensive roundup: 27-year-old Amanda Brooke Ward (Decatur), 45-year-old Emerson Eaton III (Decatur), 32-year-old Jason Dills (Ten Mile), 41-year-old Jennifer McKenzie (Athens), 58-year-old Judy Moats (Decatur), 44-year-old Ronald Dale Britt (Georgetown), 28-year-old Sheena McHone (Ten Mile), 46-year-old Surlina Eaton (Decatur), 36-year-old Tabitha Townson (Decatur), 40-year-old Travis Joe Edwards (Niota), 51-year-old William Skinner (Decatur).
