The Roane County Commission has plans to discuss the proposed Oak Ridge Airport at an upcoming workshop. Officials say that there are still some hurdles to clear, but plans are that construction on the $35-$40 million project could start late in 2018 or early 2019 and take approximately 18 months to complete. The construction site is the former K-25 site at the Heritage Center with funding coming from a mixture of sources including federal grants, the state aeronautical commission and the Metro Knoxville Airport Authority. Plans for the facility were approved in March and includes runway lengths, approaches, runway ramps and taxiways. The FAA has approved the site, which is located in the Roane County portion of Oak Ridge. The workshop is scheduled to take place on Thursday, Dec. 7 at 7 PM at the Roane County Courthouse.
