JAIL OVERCROWDING ADDRESSED AT COUNTY COMMISSION MEETING

Jail overcrowding is again an issue that Roane County officials will have to look into again. Sheriff Department Chief Deputy Tim Phillips attended last night’s (Monday, November 13, 2017) Roane County Commission meeting and said the jail currently houses at around 260 which is well over the limit. He stated he, along with Sheriff Jack Stockton and County Executive Ron Woody, will head to Nashville in the coming days to meet with Tennessee Corrections Institute officials about the overcrowding at the Roane County jail. The county commission recently approved the negotiations for the county executive to negotiate with owners of the Kingston Dollar General Store for jail expansion, but the negotiations have stalled out at the present time.
